Equivalent Air Depth Calculator
Convert an EANx dive depth to the Equivalent Air Depth that gives the same nitrogen partial pressure on air.
See the nitrogen-equivalent depth.
Enter actual depth and oxygen percentage. The calculator returns EAD, depth reduction and the relative reduction versus actual depth.
What Equivalent Air Depth means
Equivalent Air Depth converts the nitrogen exposure of a Nitrox dive into the depth at which air would produce approximately the same nitrogen partial pressure. Because Nitrox contains less nitrogen than air, EAD is shallower than the actual depth.
Example: breathing EAN32 at 24 m gives an EAD of roughly 19 m. The nitrogen exposure at 24 m on EAN32 is therefore similar to breathing air at about 19 m.
EAD describes nitrogen exposure only. It does not remove oxygen limits, CNS exposure, MOD, decompression-model differences or other planning considerations.
The calculator updates instantly from the values you enter and shows the core planning result in the dark result card.
Use realistic values from your own diving and leave a practical margin for changes in workload, conditions and equipment.
Treat this page as an educational reference and cross-check the result with your training, analysed gas and an appropriate dive-planning method.
